FAQS (Frequently Asked Questions):

I will start with some FAQS (Frequently Asked Questions):

1.) What is UIL One-Act Play? The UIL One-Act Play contest is a competition where similarly sized Texas schools present an 18-40 minute play.  The play may be adjudicated by a  single judge in Middle School. ... These rules are in place to ensure safety, allow for equity, satisfy legal standards, and make the running of the contest practical. (In other words, it is the UIL-Contest for Theatre that starts when students are in the 7th and 8th grade.)

2.) Who is allowed to compete? As per UIL Rules, ONLY 7th and 8th graders are allowed to participate in this UIL Event. These students MUST be passing all their classes in order to compete.

3.) When are Auditions and Competition Date?

Auditions are THIS Thursday(September 3, 2019), DURING your student's scheduled class time. So your student DOES NOT have to come after school to audition.

4.) Does my student(s) HAVE to participate? Students DO NOT have to participate, AT ALL, if they do not desire. Students  DO NOT have to participate in order to take the Theatre class they are already in.

This is available to any and all students who desire to participate in this exciting event, that is a 7th or 8th grader. Again, ONLY 7th and 8th graders can participate in this UIL-Event.

5.) What do I do if my student has signed up and has already talked to me about rehearsals? YAY! That is awesome! Some students may have already reached out to parents/guardians and discussed rehearsal schedules. Rehearsal schedules will not be set until I see that majority of the students are available on the same repeating days. (Eg: Majority of the students said they are available to rehearse, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and/or Saturday mornings.) AGAIN, this is ONLY for the students who are auditioning!

6.) What happens if my student(s) is in another activity(ies)? That is OKAY! I have had this happen before. I usually communicate with the sponsor or coach of that event and we work a schedule out that is good for the student, parent/guardian, and of course myself, and the other sponsor.

7.) What if my student is a 6th grader and is in Theatre? Amazing! Your 6th grader is set to go and will not be participating in this UIL event THIS year!  I still wanted everyone to have this information so we all have a clear understanding of what is going on! :)

8.) Where can I be updated about dates, performances, and rehearsals?   There will be a remind app ONLY for the parents of the students who are in OAP (One-Act Play). For those who want to come check out the competition and performances. We compete November 16th, 2019 (A Saturday. against all the other middle schools in the district.)

ONE MORE THING (Sorry for the length of the email) :

If your student has brought home or spoken to you about One-Act Play, the dates on their paper may say November 9th and the 10th towards the bottom of the page. PLEASE excuse that date and change it to the 15th and the 16th. The 15th is the day we do a practice run (Tech Day), and the 16th is Competition day. (All Day Event).

If you have ANY other questions, or concerns, PLEASE feel free to email me!
