This year Comal ISD has a district-wide subscription to Beanstack, a digital reading log. It allows students to keep track of their reading goals, minutes read, and books finished. Once a student logs into ClassLink, it is an app found in their "Library Resources" folder, which is a white heart on a turquoise background. We are using it this year not only for reading goal badges but also our Lone Star Reading Challenge badges. The kids are loving it, and we are seeing that students are reading more this year!
This year's Fiction Addiction Lone Star book club has finished reading 6 of the 2025 Lone Star titles.
The group has decided to read one final title together, a 2022 Texas TAYSHAS title, Pudge & Prejudice by A.K. Pittman. It is a clever adaptation of Jane Austen's classic Pride & Prejudice set in Texas in 1984. Ms. Lamb will take the opportunity to educate the group about all things 80s!
Once we will wrap up our club, we will hold tryouts for the Lone Star bowl, Name That Book. The final date to try out will be March 20th. Our team will begin practicing for the bowl the following week. The Name That Book bowl will take place on May 1st.
Our final book fair for the year will be a Scholastic BOGO fair. The dates will be May 4, (closed May 5 because Ms. Lamb will be off campus for a meeting), May 6, May 7, and May 8. More info will appear in the Jaguar Connection when we get closer to those dates.
Our annual end of year Lone Star party will take place in May also. The date will be Monday, May 18, in the afternoon. Any student reading at least 5 Lone Stars and completing the reporting requirements in Beanstack by May 1st will be invited to our party, which includes an afternoon of board games, prize drawings, and ice cream!
Did someone say digital books? We have SORA, an Overdrive program, for access to our district ebooks & audiobooks! Currently available for all CISD secondary school students. 6th, 7th, & 8th graders will have access to elementary and middle school resources. Check with your parents for permission before checking out books using Sora.
You may access Sora by logging into your ClassLink account and clicking on the Sora icon. Or download the app on your smart device. See directions below.
Need book suggestions? Lone Stars are always a good choice. Check out Ms. Lamb's Lone Star book trailers. Many of these titles are available in SORA in ebook and/or audiobook format as well as in the CMS library.
