Dear Students,

I'm excited to welcome you into my classroom and to share in your education this year! My education

philosophy is that each lesson can be interesting, and that it is up to me to make that a reality for my

students. My goal is to create a safe and effective learning environment for all of my students in order

to help them be successful. For this to happen, I ask that all of my students come in willing to

participate and strive for success.

Supplies specifically for my class:

Students are expected to be prepared for every class with all necessary supplies. These are the

recommended daily supplies for my class:

A pencil *Work in my class should be done in pencil*

Your green folder (provided) *This folder will contain your notes for the 9-weeks grading

period, and you will turn your work into it as well. This folder will stay in the classroom.

Your green spiral (provided) *This spiral will contain all of your written math work in class

when we have class discussions or complete work on Chromebooks. This spiral will stay in

the classroom.

TI Nspire CX Graphing Calculator *This is not required as we have a class set, but some

students may prefer to have their own calculator to guarantee they will always have one

in-class and at home.

Headphones *Some computer activities will require the use of headphones. Students are

each expected to bring their own headphones that they are responsible for.

Policies and Procedures:

Entering Class:

Students will enter the room, sit in your assigned seat, and start on the warm-up. The student’s green

spiral and folder should both be ready on your desk when you arrive. All Chromebooks must stay put

away in backpacks unless instructed to use them.

Exiting Class:

When there are 4 minutes left in class, students will clean up their area and make sure any papers from

the day are placed inside their green folder. All work done in class will be turned in to the green folder.

Daily Grades: 25% of your grade

Every day there will be either notes or an assignment. These will always go in your green folder at the

end of class. If any assignments are on the computer, math work must be written in the green spiral.

Quiz Grades: 35% of your grade

Each week there will be a CER response or a quiz. Students are allowed to use your notes from their

green folder to help them on the quiz or CER.

Test Grades: 40% of your grade

Unit tests will be given at the end of each unit. Students are not allowed to use notes on unit tests.

On Fridays, students will work on IXL in class to make sure they are able to meet their personal goals.

Grading Policy:

8th Grade Math:

25% Daily work and notes participation

35% Quizzes and CER prompts

40% Unit Tests, projects, IXL Goals

Absences:

If a student is absent from class, planned or not, the student will make up the missed content using IXL.

Cheating and Plagiarism:

Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated.

This includes copying an assignment from another student, obtaining answers or work from any third

person, using the internet or other reference material for work that should be completed individually.

If you are found cheating you will receive a zero on the assignment without the possibility to make up

the work and the parent/guardian will be contacted. Should a second infraction occur the student will

receive a written referral.
