Winners Announced for CISD's Second Spring Chess Tournament

More than 300 students competed in the second of three Comal ISD chess tournaments on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Smithson Valley High School.

A winner was named in four age groups along with honors given for campus participation and top campus teams. Here are the results.

Kinder through Second Grade Category

1st place – Tessa Schroeder, second grade, Bill Brown Elementary

2nd place – Aarnav Penagaluru, second grade, Hoffmann Lane Elementary

3rd place – Callen McElroy, second grade, Bill Brown Elementary

Third through Fifth Grade Category

1st place – Tie – Finnley Gressinger, fourth grade, Bill Brown Elementary

1st place – Tie – Henry Ferris, fourth grade, Specht Elementary

3rd place – Garrett Blair, Goodwin Frazier Elementary

Sixth through Eighth Grade Category

1st place – Sawyer Parks, sixth grade, Pieper Ranch Middle School

2nd place – Troy Messina, sixth grade, Pieper Ranch Middle School

3rd place – Joshua Freeland, sixth grade, Spring Branch Middle School

Ninth through 12th Grade Category

1st place – Dylan Sandau, 11th grade, Canyon Lake High

2nd place – Timothy Fowler, 11th grade, Canyon Lake High

3rd place – Thomas Fowler, 11th grade, Canyon Lake High
